Blogging

Today’s New York Times online has a fascinating article about the growing utility of Twitter. It’s well worth reading whether you are on Twitter or not or whether you “get” Twitter or not.
Individually, many of those 140-character “tweets” seem inane.
But taken collectively, the stream of messages can turn Twitter into a surprisingly useful tool for [...]

So, is Twitter pointless? Do I really have any friends? What happens to me when I’m disconnected from Twitter.
I tweet, therefore I am. Join me in randomly bragging about my unexceptional life. Sign up for Twitter and support my illusions!
Watch this video, it really is funny – painfully so for us Tweeple.

I have things to write about. But right now, I’m feeling like death warmed up (as my mother used to say). Mrs Barnabas and I have both fallen victim to one of the winter bugs that’s going around. We both feel lousy and cannot stop coughing. We’re lacking sleep and energy.
So, sorry, no proper post. [...]

Wake up and write!

When I started blogging I was full of enthusiasm. I wanted to write every day. Some days I’d write several posts. But as time has gone on the urge to write has faded somewhat.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I still love to write. I’ve always loved to write, and my blog [...]

Iran – a nation of bloggers

by Barney on 30 November 2008

Iran: A nation of bloggers from Mr.Aaron on Vimeo.
This impressive video essay is well worth watching. Blogging is not just an idle pursuit for Iranians. Blogs provide essential two-way links with the world outside Iran, governed as it is by people who would make every effort to completely control what information Iranian citizens have access [...]

Baha’is on the blogging course

by Barney on 21 September 2008

Rob Weinberg and I are running a course at De Vere’s Harben House in Newport Pagnell this weekend to train 13 Bahá’ís (including novelist Rod Duncan) in the elements of blogging. Our aim is to increase the number of UK Bahá’ís who have blogs and who use them to tell their own stories and share [...]

Why have I gone quiet?

by Barney on 12 September 2008

Why haven’t I posted here since 5 September? Sheer weight of work. It’s a poor excuse, I know, but it’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
This last week has been one of those weeks. A lot of meetings, sudden demands on time I might have used for blogging… You know the story, I’m sure. [...]

I’ve been awarded!

by Barney on 1 September 2008

I was deeply touched to receive the “I Love Your Blog” Award from one of my favourite fellow bloggers, Tess of Anchors and Masts. Tess’s writing combines spirituality, art, and wisdom – amongst other things – and I am honoured to be one of her awardees (is there such a word?).
The great joy of [...]

BQ is now on (in?) its cloud

by Barney on 18 August 2008

It took all day yesterday, but BQ is now safely sitting on (in?) its cloud. It took time to download files from the old server and to upload them to the new one, but it was done. And the DNS changes propagated more quickly than I had feared they might.
To quote the great Christian mystic, [...]

ProBlogger – first reading complete

by Barney on 24 May 2008

Barney-reads-ProBlogger

I’ve finished my first read-through of this excellent tome. I’ve skimmed the more familiar material and I’ve read the less familiar chapters more carefully.
Now I need to get my highlighters out and go through the whole book again very carefully.
I know quite a bit of the more techie stuff – not to Alpha Plus Geek [...]
