The Australian Baha’is have a sharp new website – great design, inviting and clean and with interesting stories.
The Australian Baha’is do some great spiritual and moral education work in schools and in after-school clubs, particularly with the 11-15 year olds. This story covers some of that work.
The whole site is well worth a visit.
(Hat-tip: my good friend Michael Day, who is now the Australian Baha’i community’s media officer.)

Definitely a step up, but the flash header takes about 45-60 seconds to load here on the East coast of the US. Severely taxing for the mildly occasional visitor, who tends to move on within 22 seconds of first glance, especially when things don’t load so well… perhaps worth letting Michael know.

I think this site has been up for quite a while months if not almost a year. But I would like to get in touch with Mike Day. Is he back in Perth or Western Australia.?
Pieter, I will let Michael know about the problem you’re having with the header of the Australian website.
Steve, Michael asked me to link to the website and I assumed it was new. I got the impression from his email that it was still being developed. Oh well, I should be more cautious in my assumptions! If you email me on jbl [at] leithjb.net, I can pass your contact details on to Michael.
Hi Barney, Pieter and Steve,
Thanks for the kind comments and suggestions.
Don’t worry, Barney. The site is relatively new and it is definitely still being developed.
Because of its design and its philosophy, I think it is worth drawing attention to it (not that I am biased, of course.)
This version of the Australian Web site has been up less than six months and we have been steadily enhancing it.
For example, we have plans for more videos, though we will not overly complicate the site.
Key considerations to be taken into account while creating the site arose from consultations on the philosophy of the site by a four-member taskforce.
Those considerations included an emphasis on beauty; a site that has an Australian feel; relaxed, brief and clear text in accord with the culture; excellent photographs; personal profiles; issues of interest to visitors.
We have also included a news service.
In addition to wanting people to know more about the Australian Baha’i community and its activities, we are publicising the site to attract feedback and suggestions and, of course, to locate bugs.
We are working on fixing the slow loading of the flash which only appears to happen to some visitors.
We will also change the email address system and add a form to locate local communities.
The site has attracted considerable positive comment.
Thanks, Michael, for the clarifications. It’s a great site and I hope that lots of people will visit it.
