Here’s a good website to visit. The Just One Day Project is an initiative by Victoria Leith and Fleur Missaghian to publish a series of books designed to promote unity, peace and happiness for humanity.

This amazing collection of diary entries was written by people from different cultures, ages, countries, backgrounds and professions, on World Peace Day, 21st September 2005.

Each person wrote about their day, sharing their thoughts on peace and giving the reader a window into their unique worlds. Each person did something that contributed towards peace in their local surroundings, helping step-by-step to make peace a reality by beginning at home with the individual. Each person also wrote about an organization, charity or worthy venture which they would like to promote to the rest of the world.

The book will be sold in all major bookstores in the UK, has been officially endorsed by Sir Richard Branson and has contributors from all over the world, some well-known, some not as well-known but all very important!

Vicky and Fleur are currently seeking sponsorship for the publication of the book, which has the backing of a publisher for sales and distribution but which needs finances for the printing. If you know of anyone who might be able to help, do let me know.

You know the Japanese have ceremonies and speeches at Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Aug 7, Aug 13, Aug 14 every year mourning the dead, vowing renewed efforts for peace, honoring the end of the war. Certainly no other country I am aware of, spends so much publicity on these kinds of events every year. However sincere these organizers and the teacher’s Union are on the matter, the issue of peace takes a certain will to action and obedience to the direction of that will. I just don’t think I have seen the fruits of all Japanese “prayers” and hopes for peace…. I believe there is an effect, socieyt could be much worse; Yet Something is missing….There are contradictions in the attitudes that it takes to make the mission of peace viable outside of Japan. There are threats believed to exist from North Korea. There is a growing fear of the political domination of China over natural resources necessary for industry growth, communication and transportation. There is a general fear of foreigners that I see examples of every day around me.
Japanese society is overall very obedient, rebellion’s character is not “acting out” but “withdrawal”.
There is increasing alienation

I know this is \”a little\” off topic. But mayby we can put it under the atmosphere for peace, a comparison.

The NY Times article makes for an interesting comparison with the UK. And it is, in my view, relevant to discussion about sustainable peace in the world.

I think Badi’s blog of several days ago, the interview with missionaries,

“Of course, everyone says that peace is desirable but the power to influence and conform is what is required.”

I don’t see the power of peace to influence PM Koizumi, and I don’t see the power to conform as a character of the secondary school students who yearly used to visit the peace memorial in larger numbers. Until this year there was a definite decline in numbers, but perhaps terrorism has a benefit and theawareness of peace ischanging school planners priorities, I hope so,
