Ethan and Emily (our No. 1 and No. 2 grandchildren) are staying with us (sans parents) over the weekend. They came yesterday and the house is filled with laughter, shouts, crying, the noise of ride-on cars and tractors being rushed up and down the deck around the back of the house. Every now and then a stern Grandpa reads the riot act - and things are quiet for a few moments, before the noise erupts again.

We’ve played Dinosaur Top Trumps. We’ve listened to some rather surreal knock-knock jokes. We’ve read stories. They said their prayers last night at bedtime. Today we’re going up the road to a stately home where there are life-size models of dinosaurs in the garden and an adventure playground.

It’s lovely to have them here, but I’ve no doubt Erica and I will value our peace and quiet on Monday!
